Iran doc attends Cinema Verite

Iran documentary short feature ‘Affidavy for Khanali’ is in competition at the 2018 edition of Cinema Verite.

Directed by Arman Gholipour, the 15-minute-documentary is attending the national competition section of the Iranian film festival.

The short flick is about an old postman of 92 who was in business for better part of his life till the time his job went obsolete 2 or 3 years ago. Now, everything is digitalized, but Khanali has no technical literacy to keep his job.

Losing his job makes him part with his hometown to go to the city. The moving and events following that cause his death.

The film has already screened at various international film events and has succeeded to win awards. The Global Youth Film Festival Rangpur (GYFFR), for example, presented the grand title Best of the Fest to ‘Affidavy for Khanali’.

Organized by the Documentary and Experimental Film Center, the first edition of the Cinema Verite was held in 2007.

Over the past decade it has emerged as one of the important events on Iran's documentary film calendar.

According to the organizers of the festival this year’s edition of the event is held in Iranian cities of Isfahan, Bushehr, Tabriz, Sari, and Shiraz in addition to Tehran simultaneously.

The 12th edition of the Cinema Verite which kicked off on December 9 will wrap up on December 16, 2018.
